MEXICALI, Mexico (AP) - A fire in the border city of Mexicali
killed five children and injured their parents and another child,
police said Wednesday.
Killed in the fire early Tuesday were five children between the
ages of 5 and 10 years old, officials said. The children's mother
and 4-year-old brother were also injured, along with their mother's
boyfriend.
The fire in Mexicali, south of Mexico's border with California,
was caused by a gas leak from the stove, officials said.
Firefighters tried to extinguish the blaze, but the wooden shack
ignited and burned too quickly for them to save the children.
