Post NJ Official charged with Arson

From the files of "dumb and dumber..."

BERGENFIELD, N.J. (AP) - A borough official who was being
replaced due to a shift in political power has been charged with
setting fire to the car of a co-worker he blamed for costing him
    his job, authorities said.
Bergenfield's outgoing chief financial officer, John Mosca Jr.,
51, was charged with aggravated arson and stalking following the
fire, which was reported at 1 a.m. Monday, Bergen County Prosecutor
John L. Molinelli said Tuesday. Mosca, whose home number in Paramus
is unpublished, is free on bail, Molinelli said.
Following a November election that shifted the majority on the
Borough Council from 4-2 Democrat to 4-2 Republican, Mosca was
informed that his three-year appointment would be allowed to expire
Tuesday, said Joe Hess, the borough manager.
Hess said officials were surprised that, even facing the loss of
his job, Mosca would react as he did.
"He never led us to believe he was capable of this action,"
    Hess said.
Deputy Finance Director Phil LoCastro was to be sworn in
Wednesday as interim chief financial officer, Hess said.
The prosecutor said in a statement that Mosca blamed the borough
tax clerk for his impending ouster, and went to her house in Mahwah
early Monday to exact his revenge. After hearing a strange noise,
the prosecutor said, the clerk went to the family garage, found her
Toyota on fire and saw a man running from the scene. Molinelli said
an investigation determined that Mosca had set the blaze.

Politics in NJ is a contact sport. But this went just a tad too far. Great job by the BCPO.

BTW: The Bergenfield FD is one class act FD. They are among the best and most innovative VFD's in the state of NJ.

Kudos to the Mahwah Fire Dept. also....who recognized the apparent arson!

I've worked with the BCPO on occasion....they've got top notch people.

NJ, where was the fire? In B'field or further up the line? You can't tell from the article.
