Deltona house fire blamed on arson

DELTONA -- A fire that heavily damaged a home here last week was arson, , a Deltona Fire Department official said.

Deputy Chief Robert Rogers said investigators from his department and the State Fire Marshal's Office have determined the Friday fire had been deliberately set.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 1312 Worthington Drive at 2:48 p.m., Rogers said, and found smoke coming from the home. . The fire in the three-bedroom home owned by Miguel Sousa was extinguished, but not before it caused an estimated $50,000 damage, Rogers said.

There were no injuries and no one was in the house at the time of the fire, he said.

The fire was reported by a friend of Sousa's, who was checking on the home while Sousa was visiting relatives, Rogers said. Investigators are asking anyone who knows anything about the fire to call the Deltona Fire Department at (386) 860-7177.
