LOS ANGELES, CA:
GREATER ALARM FIRE:

On Sunday, January 05, 2003, at 2216 hours (10:16 p.m.), eight companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, two Battalion Command Teams, one helicopter, and two LAFD Rescue Ambulances, under the direction of Battalion Commander Carl Butler, responded to a Greater Alarm Fire at 1135 West Rock View Street in the Eagle Rock area. First units on the scene reported winds gusting up to fifty miles per hour with wires down and foliage burning exposing a single-family dwelling. Firefighters using handlines and heavy stream appliances aggressively attacked the fire confining it to the foliage, one auto, and the single-family dwelling extinguishing the fire in forty-seven minutes. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is listed as under investigation. Fire damage is still being tabulated.

The Chicago Firefighter's Best Friend

"The Chicago Firefighter’s Best Friend" will be the first book to document the role and tradition of Chicago firedogs through real life stories, history, and photography. It will appeal to firefighters, dog lovers, and Chicagoans. We hope to have over 200 pictures and at least 100 firedog narratives assessing the important role dogs have played and continue to play in Chicago firehouses. A percentage of the proceeds generated from book sales will be donated to a charitable organization which assists victims of fires.
