Which department provides you the means to support your family?
Sometimes you have to do that which is necessary.
Do you think that you can advance in your career department without playing their game?
Fairness many times has nothing to do with it.

cfpd16,
I too have faced this problem but like AC1503 has written, who pays your mortgage ? I walked in your shoes 9 1/2 years ago. Even though I loved being with the crews of the poc, the income from that department was not enough to pay my mortgage. Do I miss the poc ? You bet! Have I found something to fill the time I gave to the poc ? You bet!
Take care and make your decision with all the facts and not based on emotions.

I too am on a POC dept. Some of my best friends are on that dept.
But I have a family to worry about and if I was in your shoes, my thoughts would be the same as everyone elses. That dept. doesn't pay my bills.Proud to be IACOJ Illinois Chapter--Deemed "Crustworthy" Jan, 2003

Just a question as to why there would be both a career and poc Department in the same Town? Why would the career not cover the entire Town?

This sounds like the kind of case where being a poc may stop a municipality from creating more firefighter jobs.

and this is in the volunteer forum why.....?
"This thread is being closed as it is off-topic and not related to the fire industry." - Isn't that what the Off Duty forum was for?
