    1st what was the problem?

With a SCOTT 2.2, 4.5, airpac 50, bad air can cause problems in the regulator. (It could fail open) Their is nothing wrong with repairing the air pack and returning it to service.

Annualy the pack should be bench tested, which can show a problem before it is a problem. Give us some info and well do our best to answer the question.

I've used MSA, Scott, Survivair, Interspiro, and Draeger and found SCOTT to be the best air pack out there.

ADSN, the story is on the front page of FH.com.

Unfortunately, the story only says "Scott" and not any particular type of pack. However, the 2.2, 4.5, and Fifty all use the same MMR. The high pressure regulator aka pressure reducer aka whatever you want to call it, reduces the high pressure (2216, 3000, 4500, etc) to the same pressure no matter the model when it goes into the low/intermediate pressure hose up to the MMR

Also, even though there are slightly different models of MMR for Scott (they all pretty much have hte "EZ Flo Regulator" these days) the point I was trying to make was you need to know more than what type of pack it was, you need to know what type of MMR it was and I'm willing to guess the years they were manufactured.

Sorry, I just finished reading the front page of the website.

Something doesn't seem quite right as like Adze39 said the MMR is the same for the different pressure packs. Just a guess but if everyone is issued a regulator the it is probably an EZ Flo. Since the numbers are representing a very low % of regulators I'd guess it may be something the firefighter is doing with his regulator. It will be interesting to hear the final outcome of the cause of this.

    Default Scott MMR

I have been a Scott Service Tech. for 15 years, and I have never seen or heard of a problem that is discribed in the article. I would think that if no other users have had this problem that it may be something that might be a problem with the maintenance being done.

I look forward to hearing more about this.

    Default Big surprise...

I was surpirsed when I read this message since Scott
makes the best SCBA on the market. After reading
the FH.com article, it sounded like a lack of
maintence or something since it was confined just
to Phoenix, AZ. I dont know, but could be wrong...

Could be a maintenance problem...or could be a manufacturing problem. For some reason, I got this feeling that there was a bad "batch" made. It would be good to know when they MMRs were manufactured for both FD's.

    Default Department of Engergy

DOE failure of regulator was due to damage of diaphragm lever in maintenace cleaning.
