LOCATION: Office of State Lands & Investments, Forestry Division, Riverton, Wyoming
FULL PAY BAND 7: $2115 - $4304Per Month
HIRING ZONE: $2516 - $4304 Per Month
CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelorís degree in education, communications or field related to program area PLUS four years of professional work experience as a trainer INCLUDING the majority of time spent in a training capacity.
NOTE: Preference will be given to applicants who are state certified fire instructors.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Directs statewide Rural Fire Training Program, serving volunteer firefighters and other state, federal and career emergency responders; trains firefighters in prevention, pre-suppression and suppression of rural fires, emphasizing safe operations; coordinates training in self-instructed, agency instructed and contract trainer instructed classes, meeting needs of volunteers and agencies; develops curricula for courses and evaluates available training materials and performance of contract trainers; creates, designs or customizes materials used in training program; insures compliance with National Standards for certification programs and maintains records; represents Wyoming Volunteer Fire Service and State Forestry Division at local, state, regional and national meetings, and with related fire groups and organizations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manages statewide Rural Fire Training Program by evaluating current levels of training and planning, including budgets, and conducting training sessions for Wyoming Volunteer Firefighters at the Wyoming Fire Academy, regional schools and statewide; reviews and selects contract trainers at local and state levels in conjunction with county fire wardens and local fire officers; assists with writing lesson plans and helping firefighters attain an acceptable level of competency for local and contract training; coordinates training and course content; insures compliance to National Standards with other emergency response agencies, i.e., Emergency Management, Fire Marshal, Highway Patrol, Wyoming State Agencies, Emergency Medical Services, US Forest Service, BLM, BIA, Fish and Wildlife Service and US Park Service; evaluates and adjusts training programs to meet Forestry Division goals and objectives; manages contract classes by preparing and administering contracts, scheduling contract training, collecting and maintaining training records, terminating contracts and submitting contracts for payment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of Incident Command Systems, wildland and structural fire strategy and tactics, and rural fire control programs in Wyoming; knowledge of personnel; knowledge of budgeting, contracting, evaluating and scheduling fire trainers. Skill in the use of computer software programs and audio-visual equipment; skill in giving presentations; skill in motivating volunteer firefighters and working closely with individuals and emergency services throughout the state; skill in oral and written communications.
