Racine, WI
Structure Fire

At around 1113 hrs. Racine Fire was dispatched to the 1600 blk of Douglas Ave for a report of a fire. First engine on scene reported heavy fire on the roof of a 2 story wood frame structure with a store front on the first floor and apartment on the second floor. Early report's came in that the building was vacant. Fire crews couldn't attack the fire from inside on count of heavy fire. This fire went into a defensive mode. Extra companies were called in for man power. No one was injured. Near by school's sent student's home on count of the smoke drifting into the school's. Rig's on scene were; Engines 1-2-5-9, Truck 1, Quint 8, Tactical command 1, Utilities 1-2, Car's 41- 43. Rehab was also called to the fire. Temperature's at the time of the fire was 8 degree's with a wind chill of -10, and wind out of the west at 17 gusting to 22. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
