LOS ANGELES, CA:
TRAFFIC COLLISION - LAFD INVOLVED:
On Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at 1632 Hours (4:32 PM PST), four Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, two LAFD Rescue Ambulances, the LAFD Heavy Rescue Company and one Chief Officer Command Team, all under the direction of 3rd Battalion Commander Gary Clark responded to a traffic collision involving LAFD apparatus at the intersection of Venice Boulevard and Western Avenue in the West Adams District. Light Force 26 and Rescue Ambulance 826 were dispatched from their quarters to a report of smoke on the 3rd floor of a structure at 932 South Irolo Street in Koreatown. Additional units assigned to the incident included Engine Company 26, which was mobile and responding from within its assigned district. With emergency warning equipment activated and navigating heavy traffic, Engine 26, a 1999 Pierce Dash Pumper (Shop #60548) and Rescue 826, a 1999 Ford Type III Ambulance (Shop #11581) collided in a glancing blow, causing the latter vehicle to topple onto its side. There was no entrapment or fire, and thanks to proper use of seat belts, the two male Firefighter/EMTís from Rescue 826 sustained only minor injuries. They were transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in good condition, and were later released to duty. There were no other injuries. The slight damage to Engine 26 and the more severe damage to Rescue 826 will be both assessed and addressed by technicians at LAFDís Supply and Maintenance Division. Officials from the Los Angeles Police Department are assisting LAFD Administration in its formal investigation.
