    Default Uniforms

The Jefferson City Fire Department has just completed a survey from within the department on Station Wear / Uniforms. JCFD would like to know what other departments issue as far as uniforms. Would you please help by responding to the four questions that I have listed below and any commits that you may have.

    Thanks for you assistance.

    Jason Turner
    JCFD

Does your department issue "Fire Rated" Pants? (i.e. cotton or nomex )

Does your department issue Golf shirts or T-Shirts? If so what color and style?

Does your department issue sweatshirts? If so what color and style?

Does your department issue Uniform Shirts? If so what color and style?

Pants - either 100% cotton or flamex.
Shirts - 100% cotton golf shirts or 100% cotton long and short sleve henleys (Tshirts with the 3 buttons at the neck)
Sweatshirts - mostly job style, some with denim collars, some without.
Uniform shirts - Flamex if purchased, no one wears them on duty.

We operate with a clothing allowance, so you can buy whatever you decide, provided its been approved.

We have a few choices. For a clothing allowance,we get $400.00 per year that is kept in a "bank". We then can charge items through an approved vendor. Turnout gear is provided by the department. You have to pay for your own leather lid, but if you want a 1010,it's provided. The department also provides gloves, both fire and extrication. We have a pretty loose program in regards to stationwear. I am one of the few who wears FR work trousers. I have worn them for over 17 years.Other guys wear either 100% cotton or 65/35. They dont like how much the FR's cost.
We can wear the following shirts. Firefighters and Engineers wear Navy T-shirts,polo shirts, "class B" shirts,"job" shirts,long- sleeved"rugby" or regular sweatshirts. We can choose to wear any of these items while on duty. Officers can wear white class B shirts, gray t-shirts,rugby and polo shirts and navy Job shirts and sweatshirts. We also have these groovy navy stocking caps, that have the maltese patch with our dept. name on it. We do not pay for any item we wear on duty. It is either issued or taken out of your clothing allowance. We also are issued full class A uniforms with belts, shoes and overcoat provided with the coat.pants and cap.

    1. We are issued FR pants-navy blue.
    2. No but there is discussion on going with the golf style shirt to save money. Most guys want these because no one really likes the uniform shirt.
    3. No. We must buy both sweat shirts and T-shirts on our own, usually through the union sales locker.
    4. Yes. FR light blue button down shirts. You have the choice of long or short sleeve.

We are issued four sets of uniforms per year as well a pair of shoes. The shirts are around $80 per shirt, that is why there is a push for the golf shirts.

my dept does not issue any uniforms. if you want pants you go buy them. if you want a t shirt then you pay for it and the order is placed. if you want a class a shirt. New York Clothiers in waco sells them cheap. I wish we had the money to issue uniforms but the money is needed elsewhere first.

our t shirts are dark blue with a left chest pocket. maltese cross and dept name on the pocket and name and rank or cert on the right chest side. large maltese cross with Elm Mott Fire-Rescue on the back.
