    A small point, but this may help. Try to learn Spanish, at least enought to calm and diagnose a distraught Spanish speaker. If you are planning to work in any specific location, also learn at least the basic phrases of the language of the largest minorities. It can prove most helpful.

    Too bad we can't learn to say "Learn the English language or take your @$$ back to where you came from" (and actually SAY it).

    good luck with the fire service! i am sure you will do great especially with the interest you are showing. i am kinda doing the same thing but my dumb arse waited till i was almost 23 to do anything about it. oh well, i just passed my EMT-B course so the next step is volunteering, then hopefully becoming a paid FF, but in any case good luck and welcome!
