Judging by the tv footage I don't think the brothers in Baghdad will be complaining about lack of firefighting action anytime in the near future

Iraq
I just hope that Saddam spent a tenth as much on firefighting
as he spends on the lavish palaces that he lives in!!! If not
Bagahdad will burn and we will not have to worry.AKA: Mr. Whoo-Whoo

I'm not sure they would cosider us "brothers." A few weeks before the war started there was a large goup of them marching in a parade for Saddam carrying AK 47's.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

You know I read a story about a year ago about Israeli firefighters, apparently both jews and arabs work side by side in the same stations. Does anyone know if this is the case?

I believe that only the more orthodox sects of Jews are obliged to wear beards, the Hasidic Jews come to mind. I'm sure that there must be some modifications to the BA's in order to accept beards. Either that, or the Hasidim do not take up firefighting as a career.Originally posted by Kvfcjr

Smoke, I heard about israeli and palestinian firefighters working together too. This is the article from an Israeli newspaper that I got, but it looks as if they dont actually share the same stations, that it was just the Israelis lending a hand.
ISRAEL AND PALESTINIAN
FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE QALQILYAH BLAZE TOGETHER
Israeli firefighters from two West Bank communities rushed to the aid of Palestinian counterparts today to battle a fire raging out of control in the Palestinian town of Qalqilyah, HA'ARETZ reported. About 20 workers were inside the flame-engulfed building at the time, and all managed to escape except one who was killed by the fire.
Avner Mutzafi, commander of the fire brigade based in the Ariel community explained that "a large fire broke out in a four-story building. [The two bottom two stories of the building] apparently served as a hair salon and a warehouse for textile materials. At first there were fears that people were trapped in the building, so we hurried to get them out there," he said.
According to Israel Radio, KOL YISRAEL, firefighters from Qalqilyah reported that they were unable to deal with the incident by themselves and the regional Israel Defense Forces brigade stationed there relayed an appeal for aid. Firefighting crews were then dispatched from the Ariel and Karnei Shomron communities. "We arrived on the scene, helped prevent the spread of the fire to additional structures, and helped them with water, since the water pressure in Qalqilyah is very low," Mutzfi said. "After working together, the fire is now in its final stages and is under control." Mutzfi also said that there were no injuries in the fire, and that an army force escorted the Israeli firefighters both entering and
leaving the city.
Hope this helps. God Bless!Last edited by nycgal; 03-24-2003 at 07:07 PM.

Can you imagine the redio call...
- "Firecomm, from Baghdad Chief we have many many structures fully involved, respond mutual aid from Jordan, Saudi, Kuwait, Israel, Turkey and Syria"
- "Baghdad Chief, Firecomm - unable to supply mutual aid request at the moment due to there being a war on"
- "Firecomm, Baghdad Chief - War? why didn't someone tell me there was a war on? - I thought it was the damn kids again!"

not quite. there are no rules requiring jews to have beards. it's for of a cultural thing (sort of like how african americans shave their heads). many orthodox and hasidic jews do have beards. some reform, and conservative do to. but many do not. it all depends on what the individual thing wants.Originally posted by Kvfcjr
