    Default Volunteering

I would like some feedback from all of my firefighting brothers and sisters regarding what your departments have done to promote people in your communities to volunteer. We have done everything from having open houses to running videos at the local movie theaters. Any input will be appreciated .

    Thanks and stay safe

Well... this is just my luck. Here I am trying to get on a department here in Northern IL, even offering to volunteer for a Paid On Call or Full-Time department... when all I have to do is move to Iowa.

    Talking Move to Maryland...

We got room in Md for more help.... But, back to getting the attention of prospective Volunteers. We have a sign out front of the station, lighted, and the message changes weekly. We had a training event yesterday and today (burnt a house) and had big signs up "Fire Training, Spectators welcome, Volunteers Needed" (Got 3) With new homes going up at a steady pace, we go to a new street after the last home is occupied, and go door to door, passing out info about our dept, fire prev. material, AND A RECRUITMENT MESSAGE. The first thing you see on our website is a recruitment message ( ) and the list goes on..... Stay Safe....

    Thumbs up

My department sends out a quarterly newletter to all residents in our district. Department news, training issues, pictures of drills and incidents are included, a county-wide effort is underway to recruit volunteers Click here On the back of the newsletter is information about recruiting new volunteers. The newsletter is profesionally done and has a similarity to what a constituent would receive from their politicians.

One of our annual fundraising efforts consist of hand-delivering calendars. A packet is included that contains recruitment information and an envelope for donations. It is a success every year, and we do get some feedback from our residents.
