I happened to be in Holland on 9/11 on my way back to Canada. I was caught there for nearly a week. On the Friday following the horror, I was walking along the streets near Rijkmuseum in Amsterdam. At 12 noon all the church bells started to chime and in Amsterdam that is considerable. The shops and offices along the streets were lined with people as they came out to stand on the sidewalk. Some had tears in their eyes as they stood silently respecting the people massacred on 9/11. The cars all stopped on the streets and people got out. Lights changed but traffic stayed stopped for about 3 minutes. I don't know how the rest of Europe reacted, but I will never forget the tremendous outpouring of grief, respect and love that the people of Amsterdam showed that day.
