Just got back from a course in Amherst by the Mass state academy. The course was Firefighter safety and survival. This course was great, and I will tell every firefighter call/paid to take this course when it is offered again. Well worth the trip to Amherst, and the co'eds didnt hurt either.....then the wifes expression..

I have taken basic and advanced EVOC, went through the recruit program that covers almost every other class they offer, I also took extrication, explosives recognition and a few others.
Overall it is a good program but I think many firefighters under ustilise the facility. I heard their budget was level funded so everything that was there last year will be there this year as well."Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like." Da sharkie..the recruit class is a great class. I went thru in 1997. I learned alot from it and use what I learned in Boston. I have taken the Structure fire class a few years ago, I was not impressed. Not like in drill school. I'll have to say that it was one of the only course I have taken that I will not retake. I have also noticed that the quality of trainers are not as great as when I went thru drill school. Double sessions are hurting them for quality people.
