Lewes, Rehoboth fire companies ready for new shared substation
(Lewes-AP) -- Firefighters in the Lewes and Rehoboth Beach fire
departments believe pooling their resources will allow them to
respond to fires more quickly.
Construction is almost finished on a one-point-one (m)
million-dollar substation that will give firefighters in the two
companies near Angola a shared base.
Fire officials believe the substation will cut response times by
as much as four to seven minutes.
The shared substation is believed to be a first in Delaware. The
new building will be owned by both companies, and operating costs
will be shared.
Lewes Fire Chief Gordon Davis says the substation will relieve a
lot of stress, noting that it currently can take as long as 15
minutes to respond to a call in the Angola area.
