Well they do have a siren called a Federal Q, so I'm not sure which one you are talking about.

Hey, at least it is a poll about something other than "Wat do u lic moor? Strobers or Roteateators?" Granted, it is difficult to decide which of the two (Federal or Q) when they are both the same. Thats like asking "What tastes better, an apple or an apple?"

    Default Sorry for the miscommunication

The Q siren that i am referring to is a step pedal that is on the driver and passenger side of the apparatus unless it is a very small apparatus like a small rescue or a brush that is a pickup in disguise which theres nothing wrong with that. But...the Federal is the box that has the "fake Air Horn", Wail, etc. Maybe now it will be easier to choose which one your company uses.

Its not a real fire truck unless it has a Q2B siren on it, with the exception of a rescue truck. the federal signal corporation makes siren box's like found in police cars, ambulances, chiefs cars, and they make a Q siren. Tere are also other companies that make siren's such as whelen, galls, code 3 and so on.

i think what 81st is talking about is the electronic siren vs. a Q siren. In all honesty, neither one is better, and you are supposed to use both of them when responding. The Q siren will cover a wide range of sounds, and when responding, you are supposed to wind it all the way up, hold for a second or two, and then let it wind down, that way it covers everything in its range. On electronic sirens, you can put them on whatever setting you want. Generally we use wail while responding, but yelp and phaser, with air horns for intersections. Neither one is better than the other, even in keeping with tradition. Q sirens aren't used on all fire engines anymore, because they have a huge electrical draw, and can have mechanical problems. The city near us, has engines that do not have Q sirens for the reason I just stated. They just have electronic sirens and air horns, and in all honesty, they were the first full time paid fire department in the United States, so they know all about tradition.

    Ok.....here you go,....

He means the an electronic siren or the mechanical (ie...Federal Q2B). Federal makes them both and there are also immitations.

I like the Federal Q2b over the electronic...but I love the Power Call Siren in addition to the Federal Q with the manual real air horns...... It is an awesome combination.

    So the poll should read....

    ___Federal Q2B
    ___Electronic
