Talking Going to the Academy in July Any Tips?

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for me. I'm going through the Fire Academy in July...July 21st through August 15th. 9-4 5 days a week. Just wondering if anyone has any tips for dealing with the heat. I'm sure the academy will but for those that went through the academy in the summer time or when it was warm out. Any advice? Or any one with just plain ol advice would be good to. Thanks

Fluids, and lots of it- not coffee or soda, but water with a little Gatorade tossed in. If you are not urinating at least once an hour, your probably not drinking enough.
At the end of the day when you hang your turn out gear, flip it inside out so it will dry.

FLUIDS, FLUIDS, FLUIDS, plus being in shape helps. your academy is not even a month long. It cant be that bad.

I dont know about the summers up north, but here in TX they get very hot and humid, and we all make it. you should have any problem

Lots and lots of fluids.........at the Ott House!!

Seriously, stay hydrated. They keep reminding you but do just a little extra as well.

    Also...

Go to the Ott House Tavern downtown Emmitsburg. Biggest little firefighters bar. Also tour the Fire Department. That's pretty interesting. If you have time, check out some of the civil war sites and history places. When I was there 4 of us went to Baltimore to check things out. See if you can find the hidden bunker there which was used as a shelter for the president if a nuclear strike occured.

But the real and main reason you are there is to learn. Study your little bass off but have fun doing it. The friends you meet there will last a lifetime.

Keep your head down and your powder dry.

Thanks for the responses so far...every little bit will help. Yea the class is compacted into a 3 week course so it will be pretty tough, because the regular class is 3 days a week sept through november. But I'm feeling pretty confident since I've been an explorer for a few years and I've been riding for about a year as a probie so I have alot of hands on training which will be good. The academy I'm going to is one of the best in NJ, so I hear.

    Default just a question

CALFFBOU, just a question...not trying to offend or start anything here but I am curious. I notice you link to that Capt.Bob site a LOT, did his programs impress you that much? Again, I'm just curious, thats all.

No offence taken. Here is my take on Capt. Bob.
Have you actually looked at his web-site yet?
Please do. I have contributed a few articles to it.
Offen I see people in here with the same
    questions regarding testing, interviews, agilities
and academies, job, etc. Capt. Bob is one of the
masters at answering those questions. So much,
that he put a lot of the FAQs and some great
information all on one web site to answer most
people's questions. (101 inside secrets to
    getting a badge)

Let me ask you this. Who else out there as taken the
time to build a FREE website to give you information
and how go get on the right track with a FD career?
Who else can YOU contact anytime TOLL FREE and his an
published author for FIREHOUSE MAGAZINE? Thats right,
Capt. Bob has been published in FH magazine and on
    this site.

I ask you, no challenge you to please show me anyone
else who has done so much research to answer the
the repeated questions in regards to FD testing,
interviews, coaching, resumes, chief orals, the PAT,
background interviews, DUIs, pychq. interview, etc.

I look forward to your response...Bou
