Default Station to dispatch ... ya, we're gonna need more beer over here.

If you happen to run out of beer at the firehouse (extremely unlikely, I know), just call the EMA Director ... he'll be back lickety split!
York County Official Expects To Be Fired

    POSTED: 4:02 p.m. EDT May 6, 2003
    UPDATED: 6:36 p.m. EDT May 6, 2003

YORK, Pa. -- York County Emergency Management Director Pat McFadden told News 8 he expects to be fired Wednesday. His bosses said he brought beer into the 911 call center.

McFadden received a letter from his bosses, which spells out allegations against him, including the so-called beer incident. McFadden said he did bring beer into the 911 center but it was for a stressed-out dispatcher who asked for it.

"The employee was no longer on duty. The employee went through the most extreme stressful situation anyone into can comprehend and she asked for a beer," McFadden said.

McFadden said the dispatcher had been on the phone for hours during a standoff with a Newberry Township man. The suspect held a 2-year-old hostage after shooting his wife and a police officer.

According to a letter to McFadden detailing the complaint, McFadden left the Pleasant Acres complex in his official car with his tires squealing, siren on, red and blue lights flashing on the dashboard. The complaint said he returned 10 to 15 minutes later with a three-pack of beer.

"I went approximately one block with my sirens and the lights flashing just to lighten the situation for her," McFadden said.

It was a decision McFadden now regrets.

McFadden has been with York County for approximately 30 years. He was personnel director before being appointed director of emergency services.

"This was my life. This is my being. My family knows I responded to things and let my family sit on birthdays. That's my passion. My only hope is to find one like it," McFadden said.

Lights and Sirens for only a 3 pack????

I think he should have used a little common sense, I mean, com'on, if you needs lights and sirens you'd better be bringing back at least a flat of beer.

If the dispatcher was off duty, why didn't he just taker her the pub or bar?

    Bad decision yes,

    Fire him? I wouldn't.

Suspend him for using his lights and sirens, yep

    Just my thoughts

Yeah I think a suspension is in order but doubt I would fire him. I would prefer he called in a CISD team for the dispatcher....been in her shoes with a suicide got a nice loud bang after two hours on the phone...it will definetly depress you for a while.

I don't know for sure, but the Executive Director of the County of York Department of Emergency Services is now a guy named Eric Bistline, if that tells us anything...

The lights and siren stunt was worthy of some kind of punishment. But picking up a case of beer for a co-worker that is not on the clock, I fail to see the travesty here? Plus this whole thing has nothing to do with alcohol at the station.
Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.

I guess my thought would be, the beer should not be taken into the
dispatch center. (As well as the mis use of LAS.)
