Pet Missing After Fire Destroys Home
A pet guinea pig was killed and a Jack Russell terrier remained missing late Sunday after a kitchen fire destroyed a mobile home early Sunday in North Lakeland, county fire officials said.
No people were injured.
The fire started about 10:30 a.m. when Paula Smith left the house at 2702 Earnest Road to do laundry, said county firefighter Larry Newman. When she returned 20 minutes later, the house was in flames.
Damage to the home was estimated at $12,000.
Neighbors said they last saw the pet terrier under the house, but firefighters could not find the dog, Newman said.
