What a stupid stunt.....he's lucky no one was killed.
Teenager likely to be charged after fire truck crash
(Hartford-AP) -- A teenage member of the Hartford Volunteer Fire
Department's junior firefighter program is likely to face charges
for joy riding in a fire truck. Police Chief Tommy Hoopengarner
says the ride ended in a crash. He says two friends taken along on
the ride by the 17-year-old came forward with information. The
truck apparently was taken from the Hartford Fire Station about
2:30 a-m Saturday and was found in a ditch about a mile from the
station about 30 minutes later. Fire Chief Gary Radley says the
truck sustained about 19-hundred-dollars in damage.

More re: joyride
HARTFORD, Ark. (AP) - A teenage member of the Hartford Volunteer
Fire Department's junior firefighter program is likely to face
charges after a joy ride aboard a fire truck ended in a crash, the
police chief said Wednesday.
Police Chief Tommy Hoopengarner said two friends taken along on
the ride by the 17-year-old came forward to provide information.
The fire truck apparently was taken from the Hartford Fire
Station about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Hoopengarner said. It was found
in a ditch about a mile from the station about 3 a.m., he said.
Fire Chief Gary Radley said the truck sustained about $1,900
damage, mostly to the rear end.
"He just ran it around a corner too quick, cut it too short,
ran it up over a culvert on a dirt road," Radley said.
Two youths told police that a friend took them for a ride on the
truck, Hoopengarner said. The friend who drove the truck is one of
two current members of the junior firefighter program, Radley said.
"He's suspended until the investigation is complete" and the
case is concluded, the fire chief said.
Radley said he doesn't plan to end the program because of the
actions of one participant, after a lot of success over five years.
"We've produced three real good firefighters" with the
program, he said.
The suspect in the joy-riding case would probably have ended up
as a member of the department, Radley said, but for his recent
activities.
Radley said the junior firefighter program, with two or three
participants at a time, allows teenagers to work with firefighters
at the fire station to see what the job is like "behind the
scenes." The junior firefighters do not fight fires, he said.
The suspect apparently gained access to the fire station by
"jimmying" a lock ahead of time so that it would open when he
returned later with his friends, Hoopengarner said.
He said the charges would include unauthorized use of a vehicle,
possibly commercial burglary, and possibly reckless endangerment.
They will probably be filed this week, he said.

I don't know what is worse. The fact that he took it or that he CRASHED it and then LEFT!

And that is why we dont let our Explorers or Juniors in the firehouse by themselves....Luckily one of our members lives across the street so he keeps an eye on the building at night...I hope this kid gets hit with some good charges..and not just get a slap on the wrist...WHAT WAS HE THINKING!?!

Yet another reason NOT to have Junior/Explorer programs.
Probably some whacker who takes his pager to school, has strobes and a Federal "Q" on his Go-Ped and argues with everyone about being able to do interior firefighting....stop the madness. The National Minimum Age for ALL firefighters should be 21.

Tillerman, your statements only prove your ignorance on the topic. That was stupider than everything you complained about regarding the juniors/explorers in first place.Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.

And when Alan Barid did what he did I suppose that would be a good reason to stop firefighting all together.
I suppose when 9/11 happend that would be a good reason to stop firefighting all together.
I guess when ever one person screws up or gets hurt we should just cancel that activity all together and pork everbody else that has a good head on there shoulders and arnt retarded!

No, but a good reason not to have Ill-trained MORONS running Live Fire training exercises. And when Alan Barid did what he did I suppose that would be a good reason to stop firefighting all together.
9/11 wasn't about firefighting or firefighters. 9/11 was a Terrorist attack aimed at Killing innocent civilians regardless of their profession. So since so many Investment Bankers, Stock Brokers and Maintenance people that worked at the WTC got killed, we should shut down the Stock Market and not maintain buildings either?I suppose when 9/11 happend that would be a good reason to stop firefighting all together.
I am not even going to touch that, because the statement itself is Retarded as it seems, the writer is too.I guess when ever one person screws up or gets hurt we should just cancel that activity all together and pork everbody else that has a good head on there shoulders and arnt retarded!
Hey Sh-tbag, I have been Fighting Fires since you were crapping in your diapers. I think you are the one who needs a copy of that book, because each post that you make sums up your Ignorance of this business. This is not a 2 time a week explorer meeting where we all pretend we are the big "Captain" and dream of which Engine we can ride on.Tiller boy if you dont like us,dont talk to us just put your Electric toothbrush on and calm your self down and read your copy of Firefighting for Dummys.
You would not last a Week down here, so stop your ranting and go ask your advisor if you can sit in the Driver seat of the Wagon at the explorer meeting next week. And to all of the sensible Explorers on here that don't Ego-Trip, good luck in your careers....Because there are a few of you.

Tiller, nothing you have said so far is in any way is helping you. Get back to us all when you can come up with a logical argument.
