$20,000 raised during block party

Even though hundreds of firefighters still are competing in the 31st annual Florida Firefighters State Games here in Cape Coral and Fort Myers, the Rock n’ the House Block Party brought in more than $20,000 for the Southwest Florida Ronald McDonald House in Fort Myers.

“We are really thrilled,” said Gail Stookey, director of operations at the local Ronald McDonald House. “It was the best year so far with all the help of many people.”

Dedicated to adding a new addition to the house, local firefighters took the challenge of raising funds in memory of their fellow firefighter Richard Heyer, who lost his battle to cancer three years ago.

“This is a great day for everyone involved,” said Eric Gainey, a Cape Coral firefighter and committee member for the state games. “This is only the beginning.”
