Senate votes to tap pension funds to fund schools

(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The Oklahoma Senate voted unanimously
today to tap police, firefighter and law enforcement pension funds
to provide funding for public schools.
Almost 86 (m) million dollars would be obtained.
The bill is part of an agreement reached earlier in the session
between Governor Henry and legislative leaders that led to the
early funding of public schools.
It is one of many steps lawmakers are taking to make up for a
678 (m) million-dollar budget shortfall for the next fiscal year
that starts July first.
There was no debate on the measure.
