Mobile home destroyed by fire; no one hurt
MICANOPY - A Micanopy couple was left homeless Monday after a fire destroyed their mobile home.
A passer-by called 911 when he saw flames coming from the home at 5526 SE County Road 346, said Chad Bradt, Alachua County Fire Rescue district chief.
Nobody was home at the time.
The fire burned off most of the home's metal frame, leaving the charred beams exposed.
Judy Hass, one of the homeowners, was at her sister's house when the fire started and said she learned about the fire when her husband called. She said she didn't know how the fire started. Neighbors said there was a lot of lightning at the time, but fire investigators hadn't determined a cause by Monday evening.
