Police: Resident attacks fireman with knife
(Mount Vernon-AP) -- He was just trying to do his job, but
authorities say a Fairfax County fireman wound up face-to-face with
a knife-wielding man.
It happened at a home near Mount Vernon. Firefighters answering
a call found a cooking pot on fire in the back yard. They put out
the fire, then saw a broken window in the house, so they called
inside to check if anyone was there.
No one answered, so one of the firefighters began crawling
through the window. That's when police say he encountered the owner
of the house -- who grabbed a large knife and began slashing at the
fireman's face.
The fireman managed to escape unharmed. Police are now holding
Michael Wallace Henry, who faces a felony charge of assault on a
firefighter.
