Thanks to the generosity of Tampa firefighters more than 30 Bay area children, all of them burn victims, spent Thursday at Adventure Island.

It was the fourth day of a week-long program called Camp Hopetake, which teaches them that the way they look shouldn't affect the way they live. The $35,000 cost of the camp includes visits to area beaches and theme parks, and was paid for by the Tampa Firefighters and Paramedics Union.

"By us doing this, it kind of makes them feel a little bit better," said Russell Spicola of Tampa Fire Rescue. "It makes us feel better, too."

Spicola says the camp is now in its 13th year, and money is already being raised to fund a 14th season next year.
