NEW YORK (AP) - At least 14 people, including nine firefighters,
were hospitalized with minor injuries from a four-alarm fire in
Greenwich Village early Tuesday.
The blaze started in the first floor restaurant of a building on
Thompson Street at Bleecker.
"Units were confronted by flames and smoke conditions in the
restaurant on the first floor with smoke conditions on the second
and third floor," Chief Stanley Dave told WNBC-TV. "Subsequent to
that, smoke spread throughout the building. Fire had extended to
concealed spaces to the third floor of the building where it was
extinguished."
In addition to the nine firefighters, five civilians were taken
to local hospitals to be treated for minor injuries.
No information was immediately available on the cause of the
fire.
