** AMERICA'S BRAVEST COMPETE FOR AMERICA'S CLEANEST TITLE
** Winners From The First "Cleanest Volunteer Firehouse Kitchen"
Contest Announced
STORY SUMMARY:
They may be some of America's bravest but no one ever claimed they
were America's cleanest...until now. The National Volunteer Firefighters
Council and the makers of Scotch-Brite just held their first "Cleanest
Volunteer Firehouse Kitchen" contest to determine which firehouse kitchen
is kept the most sparkling.
Volunteer firehouses across the country competed for the title, which
required entrants to submit color photos of their firehouse kitchen, a
cleaning tip and a description of how they would use the $5,000 cash
donation to their firehouse.
Some of the clean-up tips included:
+ Tape scrubbers to your toes to get those hard-to-reach areas.
+ To clean grills quickly, take a newly opened can of soda and pour it
onto the hot grill. Residue will rub right off with a scrub pad.
+ Remove hard water stains by rubbing them with a scouring pad dipped in
vinegar.
The grand prize winner was the Wallace Volunteer Fire Department in
Wallace, North Carolina, who plans on using their cash donation to purchase
state-of-the-art accountability equipment which will help them keep track
of firefighters during a fire or emergency. In addition to a catered party
at their firehouse, they'll also receive - appropriately enough - a year's
supply of cleaning products.
The runners-up each received a $1000 cash donation and a year's supply
of cleaning products.
I found this in the newswires....among the satelite feed data. Has anyone heard anything about this so called "contest?"

It's so refreshing to see the NVFC is concerned with such "important" fire fighting causes.

Yeah, I heard of the contest. The Commission on Fire Prevention and Control in Connecticut sent details about this contest out a while ago in their email list serve.
