NEW YORK (AP) - An early Tuesday morning fire in Brooklyn
claimed the life of one woman and left two firefighters with minor
injuries, authorities said.
The fire broke out on the first floor of a home on Bay 28th
Street in the Bath Beach section of Brooklyn at about 3:24 a.m.,
said fire department spokesman Jack Thompson.
As many as 60 firefighters responded to the all-hands blaze, and
attempted to rescue a woman who was trapped in the house.
"The victim was trapped in the rear of the building, she didn't
have any chance at all," Chief Steven Bernius told WNBC-TV.
Two firefighters also sustained minor injuries and were taken to
Victory Memorial Hospital, Thompson said.
Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
