Police arrest woman on arson charges
A woman was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for allegedly trying to burn down her ex-boyfriend's house.
The woman, 44, of Sandy, was arrested for investigation of aggravated arson, aggravated burglary and theft. She is accused of starting three fires inside a house at near 7700 South and 3700 East on July 4.
The owner of the house was the woman's ex-boyfriend who broke up with her the previous day, Salt Lake County Fire Capt. Fitzgerald Peterson said.
While the homeowner and his children were on enjoying a family outing in Ogden, the woman went to the house and started fires in the garage, the bedroom and the den, Peterson said. Neighbors called the fire department reporting the garage was on fire.
Crews were able to contain the fires to those three areas and damage was limited to $75,000.
The woman was also accused of stealing a .22-caliber pistol, a .22-caliber rifle, a laptop and some personal letters from the house.
