Fire at Alliant Technologies puts a scare in West Valley crews
WEST VALLEY CITY ó A small grass fire spread to two buildings on the campus of defense contractor Alliant Technologies on Monday, creating some harrowing moments for crews on the scene.
Alliant manufactures rocket propellant and other materials that could have exploded, West Valley Fire Capt. Bob Fitzgerald said.
The fire began about 3:30 p.m. when some power lines went down and ignited small patches of fire. The flames spread to the exteriors of two unused buildings. Crews contained the fire before it spread to the buildings' interiors. Fitzgerald would not estimate a damage cost because the buildings were old and abandoned.
The company's own firefighters battled the blaze with assistance from West Valley firefighters and three other agencies.
