2100 South crash kills boy
The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating an accident on the 2100 South freeway during the noon hour Thursday that claimed an 8-year-old boy.
Killed was:
Jared Jensen, 8, of West Valley City.
About 12:40 p.m., a car was travelling east on U-201 near 5600 West. The driver of a pickup truck changed lanes ahead of the car. The car's driver allegedly did not leave enough space between the two vehicles. "She was within 2 to 4 feet of his bumper," UHP trooper Rourke McMorris said.
The truck's driver tapped the brakes and the car's driver slammed on hers, which caused her to lose control of the car. It veered to the right and rolled three times, landing upright, McMorris said.
During the roll, an 8-year-old boy was ejected. Emergency medical personnel worked on the boy for 30 minutes but he died on scene, McMorris said.
The car's 25-year-old driver and a 10-year-old passenger were transported to University Hospital. A 4-year-old girl was transported to Primary Children's Medical Center. They suffered minor injuries, McMorris said.
