By Anthony Cormier News Herald Writer 747-5089 / acormier@pcnh.com
Investigators believe an arsonist started the fire that destroyed a Springfield home this week, and authorities said Thursday they have a suspect.
According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, nearly 20 fire fighters from Springfield, Callaway and Hiland Park responded to the blaze around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
The fire "totaled" the wood frame residence at 137 Transmitter Road, Investigator Don Cioeta said. No one was home at the time, but authorities later found the owner, who said she had been staying with relatives.
The owner has not been charged with a crime, and investigators said they are searching for a male suspect.
"It was an incendiary fire; it was set," Cioeta said. "We do have a suspect that we’re in the process of trying to locate."
