Deadly Roads, Fires, Floods, Serial Arsons, Tornado - Busy week
Busy week for Calgary Firefighters, EMS & Police (and a very difficult week I'm sure - there were 2 members of the fire fighting community who also sadly passed away) :(

This morning at 9:20am, NINE vehicles were involved in a massive collision at 16 Avenue and Bowfort Road N.W. Fire crews from six different stations were involved in everthing from traffic control to hazardous materials cleanup to the actual extrication procedures.

Wild weather -- including reports of a tornado, a strong windstorm and six-degree temperature drop in less than 30 minutes -- hit Calgary Sunday afternoon, sending emergency crews scrambling and city folk scanning the skies.

Just after 6:00am this morning, fire crews responded to 4515 21 Ave N.W. for a flood call. Upon arrival crews found three houses with more than a foot of water in their respective basements. The heavy volume of water undermined the foundation at 4515, which prompted the Heavy Rescue crew to be called in.

The Calgary Fire Department responded to it's second large flood call of the day at 8:00am this morning.

This afternoon at 1:40pm fire crews responded to a motor vehicle collision on Sarcee Trail, one half kilometer North of Bow Trail. Emergency rescue crews extricated two patients, one male and one female, from a heavily damaged minivan and both were sent to hospital with critical injuries. Unfortunately the driver of one of the other vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other patients were transported with minor injuries as well. Sixteen firefighters from five different stations attended this incident.

At 4:40pm this afternoon, on what has already been an extremely busy day for the Calgary Fire Department, two house fires broke out simultaneously.

This evening at 8:20pm fire crews responded to a rollover accident at 16th Avenue and 10th Street N.W. Upon arrival, crews found six cars involved in a massive collision.
Head-on claims sixth life in week of carnage

A head-on collision in northwest Calgary yesterday added to a string of crashes that has put the city on a record pace for road fatalities. The devastating crash in the far northwest corner of the city claimed yet another life -- the sixth in a week.
Another Arson In City's Southeast
July 24,2003- Calgary's arson squad is investigating after another car was torched early Thursday morning in the Southeast. There have been 17 similar fires in Queensland since April.

At 2:45am this morning, crews responded to the Blockbuster
Video store in Westhills Mall for a building fire.
Upon arrival, crews were met with a fully involved building
that was consumed with heat and smoke.

At 10:40am this morning fire crews responded to a collision between a small SUV and a gravel truck on Burma Road and 84 Street. N.W. The force of the impact forced both vehicles into opposite ditches and damage to the vehicles was extensive. The driver of the gravel truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries but the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead on scene. Fire crews are dealing with hazardous material pick up while Calgary Police investigate the incident.
