MAJOR EMERGENCY STRUCTURE FIRE:


On Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at 1527 hours (3:27 p.m.), twenty six companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, six Battalion Officer Command Teams, two Battalion EMS Supervisors, and seven LAFD Rescue Ambulances, under the direction of Deputy Department Commander Mario Rueda, responded to a Major Emergency Structure Fire at 1300 North Vermont Avenue in the Los Feliz/Griffith Park area. First units on the scene reported a five-story hospital with fire and heavy smoke showing from three floors of the Queen of Angels/Hollywood Presbyterian hospital. Firefighters using handlines aggressively attacked the fire encountering heavy smoke and fire in the hallway on the fourth floor. Firefighters confined the fire to the three floors used for storage and extinguished the fire thirty-nine minutes. Twelve patients were evacuated from the emergency room on the first floor as a safety precaution. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is listed as under investigation.

Springfield, Illinois Fire Safety Fair & Antique Fire Apparatus Muster

The second annual antique fire apparatus muster will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2003, from 9:00 am - 2:00 PM. It will be held at the Illinois State Fair Grounds at the corner of Main & Central in Springfield Illinois.

There will be free food and drink, live fire department demonstrations, water source to pump antique fire apparatus, fire safety games for the children of all ages, and much more.
