July 30, 2003 -- A 90-year-old Oregon woman fed up with the cockroaches in her bedroom began roasting them alive with a portable blowtorch - and nearly burned her house down.
Firefighters in Kenton raced to the home of Ona Bates to find flames pouring out. The home sustained $4,500 in damages.
"I've heard this one before. I don't know where they get the idea to do it," Fire Bureau spokesman Neil Heesacker told The Oregonian.

More Weird But True
Never underestimate human stupidity. A 28-year-old guy called 911 threatening suicide. His method? He swallowed several nitroglycerin pills, prescribed for a heart condition, and repeatedly slammed himself into the wall, trying to make himself explode.

Reminds me of my first working fire. Seems like the homeowner had a problem with several bee nests in his attic. He decided to use a blow torch to burn them out. We arrived on scene to find the roof had already self-ventilated. 1st FF up there, looked in the vent window and said he could see flaming bees flying around, landing on different spots, spreading the fire.

ANOTHER ROACH STORY
A bid to beat the record for domino toppling was foiled when a cockroach pushed one of the tiles and sparked a chain reaction that knocked down tens of thousands more.
Ma Lihua, 24, of Beijing spent weeks setting up 350,000 dominoes for the feat, then watched in horror as the bug wreaked havoc.

Maybe he should have tried swatting first.
More Weird But True.....

A man who attempted to fight bothersome wasps with insect spray and a cigarette lighter burned down his apartment and two neighboring flats in Zurich, Switzerland.
First, he used a whole can of insect spray on a nest, then tried to fend off the angry wasps with his lighter, sparking a massive blaze that caused more than $350,000 in damagesALL GAVE SOME BUT SOME GAVE ALL

This sounds fun
And heres what you can do in Collage...
last week dozens of daredevils lined up at Rutgers University, New Jersey to participate in a cricket-spitting contest.
Contestants had to put brown crickets in their mouths, then spit them out as far as possible.
The top prize went to Chris O'Donovan of Lawrenceville, who launched his cricket a remarkable 28 feet...
Now that is a talented guy.Last edited by E40FDNYL35; 08-27-2003 at 07:07 AM.

PETI (People for the Ethical Treatment of Insects) is calling for a boycott of all Ivy League schools in protest of the inhumane treatment of poor, defenseless crickets. On another note, see what $40K a year in tuition gets you?

August 29, 2003 -- Missouri's rivers have been invaded by crazy carp that jump into boats and attack fisherman. One state biologist boating near Columbia had a filling knocked from a tooth by a high-flying fish that struck him in the head, while another in St. Charles was seriously hurt when he was beaned by a giant carp.
"This could be an indefinite problem," said state conservationist Brian Todd, who explained that the psycho fish are non-native carp that escaped from private fish hatcheries.ALL GAVE SOME BUT SOME GAVE ALL
