LOS ANGELES, CA
GREATER ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE:
On Tuesday, August 05, 2003, at 0958 hours, (9:58 a.m.), thirteen companies of Los Angles Firefighters, two Battalion Officer Command Teams, three LAFD Rescue Ambulances, and other support units, under the direction of Assistant Chief Lawrence J. Krokes, responded to a Greater Alarm Structure Fire at 4163 South Central Avenue in the South Los Angeles area. First units on the scene reported a multi-occupancy, one-story, 100’ x 150’ commercial structure with heavy smoke showing from the rear. Firefighters using handlines aggressively attacked the fire and confined it to the attic and one room approximately 15’ x 30’ and extinguished the fire in fifteen minutes. One firefighter suffering from minor smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion was transported to California Hospital in good condition. No other injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is listed as under investigation. Fire damage is estimated at $60,000. ($50,000 structure and $10,000 contents)
