Veteran Passaic firefighter charged with official misconduct
(Passaic-AP) -- An apparent April Fool's Day prank has a veteran
Passaic firefighter in hot water.
Stephen Geosits, a lieutenant who has served with the fire
department for 18 years, was indicted yesterday on charges of
official misconduct and making a false public alarm.
Prosecutors say Geosits was off-duty when he went to the
department's dispatch headquarters on April First. He first radioed
the city's Westside firehouse about a heavy smoke condition, then
issued a second report about a fire at another location.
Geosits, who was suspended without pay shortly after the
incident occurred, won't discuss the charges. But his attorney says
the matter should have been handled administratively.

NJ toughened up their "false alarm" laws due to a staged drowning in my area a few years ago. Much larger fine involved at least.
