LOS ANGELES, CA:
MAJOR EMERGENCY GRASS FIRE:

On Wednesday, August 06, 2003 at 1418 Hours (2:18 PM PDT), seventeen Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, one LAFD Rescue Ambulance, two LAFD Helicopters and four Battalion Officer Command Teams, all under the direction of Assistant Chief Michael Fulmis responded to a Major Emergency Grass Fire near 569 West Lotus Street in the Mount Washington area. The first Company to arrive in the residential neighborhood discovered an acre of hillside grass ablaze, threatening several nearby homes. Firefighters, aided by precise helicopter water drops, expertly attacked the fire with handlines. Their well-coordinated efforts confined the flames to just two acres of vegetation, sparing half a dozen homes from damage. The flames were extinguished in only 52 minutes and there were no injuries. The cause of this fire remains categorized as under investigation.
