*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

LOS ANGELES, CA:
MAJOR EMERGENCY STRUCTURE FIRE

On Sunday, August 10, 2003 at 0740 hours twenty-five companies of Firefighters, five Rescue Ambulances, four Chief Officer Command Teams and other support resources from LAFD and two Engines and two Squads from LACOFD all under the command of Assistant Chief John Badgett responded to a major emergency structure fire at 6820 S. Brynhurst Avenue in the Hyde Park area. First units on scene reported a one and two story 150’ x 200’ commercial with heavy fire showing. Firefighters initially used handlines until thirty minutes into the fire when a portion of the roof collapsed causing Firefighters to withdraw and go to heavy streams. The fire was confined to Crossman Manufacturing, a plastic fabrication business, and was extinguished in one hour and two minutes. One Firefighter sustained a minor laceration to his wrist during overhaul and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. The cause is listed as an exterior fire in a dumpster that extended into trees and then into the structure. The loss is estimated at $550,000. ($300,000 to structure and $250,000 to contents).

*** UPCOMING EVENTS ***

ST. LOUIS, MO:

The Great Fire Engine Rally will be held downtown (Market and Tucker Sts); Sunday, Sept 7th, 2003. Fire Engine Parade at 10 am (lights and sirens) with displays, flea-martket and games afterwards.

[STLFN]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PITTSFIELD (PIKE Co.), IL:
Pittsfield (IL) Fire Department will be hosting it’s Second Annual Truck Muster during the Pittsfield Fall Festival on September 13, 2003, 1200 to 1500 hours. We would like to extend a hardy invitation to everyone in the fire service community to come and participate or just come and enjoy.
Pittsfield will be having it’s annual Fall Festival September 11, 12 and 13 on the Pike County Court House Lawn. This is three days of great family fun. Entertainment, contests, craft and various vendor booths, rides for the kids and all types of foods. Pittsfield Fire Department will be cooking butterfly pork chops and shaking lemonade. This will be an event that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
Preceeding the Muster will be a parade starting by the High School at 1100 hours and end up circling the square. Line up will be 1000 to 1030 hours. At that point the emergency vehicles will break off and congregate a block North of the Court House at the Fire Department, well within walking distance of the other events.
If you could let me know that you are planning to attend by September 10th it would help making lineup arrangements before the parade. You may contact me by cell phone (217)370-1051 or by e-mail at ranruble@pikenet.net All late comers are still welcome.
One thing I will need prior to the parade starting will be (2) two 3x5 cards with your department’s name, area served, type truck, personnel attending, etc. to give to the announcer. This is very important to have this information ready ahead of time. It gets pretty crazy right before the parade starts. NOTE: You do not have to be in the parade to participate in the Muster.
Come and enjoy a nice fall day of fun in west central Illinois with your fellow fire fighters. Hope to see everyone there.
Randall Ruble
Secretary
Pittsfield Fire Department
