LOS ANGELES, CA:
MAJOR EMERGENCY STRUCTURE FIRE:

On Thursday, August 14, 2003, at 1450 hours (2:50 p.m.) twenty-eight companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, four Battalion Command Officer Teams, seven LAFD Rescue Ambulances, the Tractor Company, two Battalion EMS Supervisors, one helicopter, and other support units, responded to a Major Emergency Structure Fire at 1213 W. Bellevue Avenue in the Civic Center/Bunker Hills area. First units on the scene reported fire to rear of a two-story single family dwelling spreading rapidly into the structure. Within minutes, the fire driven by 15-20 mph winds spread rapidly to five other wood sided structures and trees, exposing several other building in the targeted area. Firefighters using handlines and heavy stream appliances aggressively attacked the fast moving fire and confined the fire to six structures ((1) one story single family dwelling, (1) two story 4plex, (2) two story duplex, (1) one story duplex and one living structure in the rear) extinguishing the fire in one hour and thirty-seven minutes. One Firefighter suffered a two-inch laceration to the face and three other Firefighters suffering from heat exhaustion were transported to local hospitals in good condition. Receiving hospitals were Kaiser Ė West LA and Good Samaritan Hospital. A sixty-nine year old male was transported to California Hospital with chest pains. Nine occupants will be assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire is listed as under investigation and fire damage is still being tabulated.
