Critical Need For Firefighters
Kwajalein Range Services (WWW.KRSJV.COM) has the following opening:
Opportunity at the Reagan Test Site (RTS) located in the exotic and tropical island of Kwajalein in the Republic of Marshall Islands. Reagan Test Site (RTS) complex includes a variety of radar, telemetry, and other instrumentation and communication systems.
This location is a beautiful, tropical setting in the central Pacific that offers year-round water sports and many other recreational activities. Kwajalein is similar to most American communities with schools, hospital, stores and all public works. Crime is virtually non-existent and so is traffic, private automobiles are not authorized and bicycles are the primary mode of transportation.

The Position: Firefighter
The firefighter controls and extinguishes fires, protects life and property, and maintains equipment, Responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls. Selects hose nozzle, depending on type of fire, and directs stream of water or chemicals onto fire. Positions and climbs ladders to gain access to upper levels of buildings for ventilation or entrance, using ax, chisel, crowbar, electric saw, core cutter, and other power equipment. Protects property from water and smoke by use of waterproof salvage covers, smoke ejectors, and deodorants. Administers first aid and artificial respiration to injured persons and those overcome by fire and smoke. Communicates with superiors during fire, using portable two way radio. Inspects buildings for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention ordinances. Performs assigned duties in maintaining apparatus, quarters, buildings, equipment, grounds, and hydrants. Participates in drills, demonstrations, and courses in hydraulics, pump operation and maintenance, and firefighting techniques. May fill fire extinguishers in institutions or industrial plants. May issue forms to building owners, listing fire regulation violations to be corrected. May drive and operate fire fighting vehicles and equipment. May be assigned duty in marine division or other divisions as designated Firefighter.
This position will require graduation from an recognized fire academy resulting in International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (ProBoard) certification as a Firefighter I and Hazmat Awareness and Operations. Two years experience as a paid-professional firefighter. Fire Science Degrees (AS or BS) may be substituted for experience and fire academy training if candidate possesses IFSAC or ProBoard Firefighter I and Hazmat Awareness& Operations certifications.
Per GS081 series, maximum age for entry in to the Fire Protection Specialist field is 37 years and candidate must have a HS diploma or GED. Candidate must pass a thorough physical fitness exam IAW NFPA 1500, drug testing, and background investigation.
