I've been on the FIRE-L list since the Cornell days - however long ago that was. I've noticed one or two references to the list on the forums and was just curious if there were any other FIRE-L subscribers on the Firehouse forums.

Me too

Kudos to Gil Emery, whose a police dispatcher up in New Hampshire whose moderated Fire-L all these years.
Fire-L is a moderated email group, which means all posts get approved by one of the moderators (usually Gil). So you don't get spam, and when a conversation vears to far into whackerville he can stop a thread much more proactively than a webteam can monitoring a forum.
Figures it would take a police dispatcher with no fire background to keep a bunch of firefighters in line!

Fire-L means "Fire List" It's an e-mail group that discusses firefighting issues. You can subscribe two different ways; receive each e-mail as it's sent or once a day you get a digest which has all the topics discussed that day in one e-mail.
It's a great list, I have subscribed for 3 years now. Just one more source of networking and info exchange for the fire service.

Be patient.
Once Gil has approved you for the list, you'll start getting some mail. Sometimes there's only one or two, sometimes a flood (and sometimes Gil goes on vacation) but they'll come.
It's like the forums in some respects. There are serious issues and there are trivial ones. And there are plenty of interesting people with lots of different experiences.ullrichk
