FIRE Blaze destroys house in Freeport

FREEPORT — Fire destroyed a house at 575 Old Jolly Bay Road on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 1:30 p.m., the Freeport Volunteer Fire Department responded to the home of John and Deborah Skinner to find it in flames. They quickly called in firefighters from the South Walton Fire District.

Freeport Fire Chief James Odom said they had the fire under control in about 10 minutes. Nobody was inside the house at the time of the fire, he said.

"The inside’s a total loss just from heat damage and smoke damage," Odom said.

Odom said the fire started in the back of the house. It is not yet known how it started.

The state fire marshal is investigating.
