If these people really want to help humankind reach a better life they would mind their own business. If they want to put their symbol up that is their right, but don't complain about the symbols of others just because they don't fit in with your belief (or is it non-belief?) system.

Excellent comments, all, especially Rev!
La Crosse, WI, has been doing battle over a 10 Commandments monument in a City park, and a recent writer to the newspaper wondered what the plaintiffs would have to say about all the crosses in the public cemeteries. Imagine anyone trying to force removal of the crosses - and Stars of David - in Arlington??Joe O'Keefe

As someone has already stated, "You cannot say anything without offending somebody." This, unfortunately, is so true. I think that something (I don't know what) in our culture has bred a generation that whines about every little thing. Its getting to be totaly obserd!

In the words of one of New Yorks Bravest, just days after 9/11...
"You can kiss my royal Irish ***"
I think that is a fitting reply to a statement such as this.

What is a cross?
A cross is a symbol.
What does the symbol stand for?
Isn't that defined by the beholder? If you raise your middle finger to someone, isn't the true meaning of that symbol defined by the person viewing the finger? If you don't think it means anything, you won't care.
Similarly, if an atheist believes that there is no God, then why do they care if there is a symbol of God displayed? Aren't they admitting that there is a God, by the simple offense taken by the symbol?
... sorry, just some random thoughts.
Back to the practical thoughts ...
Unless this chick is going to pay for the memorial, I don't give a rat's *** what she thinks should, or should not be included.

That's right. If you don't like religious symbolism, just don't look.
Same with walking down the street and seeing mega churches on the street corners, just don't look.
Or when watching TV....just don't look...
Or when going about your everyday life-wait...I'm seeing a trend here.

So if they don't trust in god because they don't believe in god...then how are they supposed to live in this country? They can't pay bills because of that crappy motto that's stamped on our currency! Maybe we should just get rid of the motto, you know to separate church from state. Then everyone will be happy. Oh wait, no we won't. The crazy ****ed of cult members of the Westboro Baptist Church will make an appearance and start spewing hate from their bigot faces. Unless......maybe once they show up...Atheists and Christians will finally come together and agree on something...and that something is hating the WBC! Byaaah!!

I love the strawman argument that somehow Science == Atheism != Religion. In fact, as an engineer I abhor that this Atheist Group subverts a scientific symbol and claim to be for "use of scientific analysis and free, open inquiry can humankind reach out for a better life." when in fact they're for the opposite. Bunch of hypocritical, self-righteous, ****** bags.

Oh Ellen.. it's far worse then you imagine. The item in question is not man made and was formed naturally in the wreckage. The fact that the item formed in the shape of a cross is proof that there is a god and that she wants everyone to bow down to her iron clad rule.

I'm an atheist and I could care less about this topic. I would really like folks like this guy to not create an issue where none exists. I have no problem with any group believing in some mythical sky being that is dispensing justice or has some grandiose plan for humanity.
I would very much appreciate if religious believers had as much respect for my beliefs as I have of theirs.

Sooooo, by saying you could care less it sounds like you do care. I think what you really mean is that you COULDN'T care less. That means that you don't care because you can't care less than not caring at all. And the fact that you posted on here means that you do care about the subject or you wouldn't have made it a point to express that you are an atheist and make your broad all encompassing statement towards all religious people. Not to mention your snide little remark about a mythical sky being. Just saying.
