There's a competition? A parade? Damn, I thought that was just the traffic out of town.

Gee, do you think they will vote on the IAFC Resolution to ban alcohol in fire houses?

Actually George, something similar was talked about briefly at my County caucus(sp?). Of course, it was over a few beers.

The New Jersey State Firemen's Convention. Wildwood Convention Center.

Who better, for many years, than FF's to violate the occupancy rating of a structure...by cramming something like 11,000 delegates into a hall rated for 8,000. My figures may be off...but all of you who have been there in the past, will verify it.

I found it outrageous. I no longer attend.

NJ, come back. New convention hall opened last year. Our attendance no longer fills the building close to capacity, there are even empty seats left. Very nice building, well setup, lots of room and conveniences.

And yes, sitting in the old one (which is currently a pile of rubble as it was demolished in last week or so) on Saturday morning was absolutely horrible.

Not only was it horrible...we were breaking the law! Year after year after year....and everyone knew it. Of course, the Wildwood code officials wouldn't dare put an end to it...and risk losing all that money being spent.

    Maybe next year.

Bowman, I'll look for you. You should have had a County caucus meeting recently, which goes over almost everything that will be brought up at the meetings themselves. Plus you can expect someone from southern Ocean county bringing up discussion from the floor about a second fireman's home.

    1. In reality, you could count on one hand the number of useful issues that have been handled at that convention in the past 20 years.

    2. As a Boonton native, I have to ask, why in the world do we need another Firemen's Home? The one we have is gorgeous and well run. It is built on about a skillion acres that could easily be expanded. Plus it is protected by the finest FD in the State of NJ.

Well it was a real interesting time in Wildwood, Spent 1 1/2 hours standing in the rain Friday at the southern most part of the displays, Then in to the convention hall for good time watching beach balls being bounced around in the stands to the Gov. being boo'ed. We now have a new President after a long and drawn out count and re-count and re-re-count Joe Paolo is now the President winning by a count of 53 votes

Well it was an enjoyable weekend...even though it rained thursday & friday ,saturday definatley made up for it. Parade was awesome, the tents had nice variety of things to buy and the apparatus displays had some amazing trucks to look at. But the best of all was the convention center when we won best Overall for the Parade and when my truck won 1st place for best appearing Platform.....So for those who were there....what did ya think of South Amboy FD??? I'd be a whole lot more impressed if you were bragging about your fire suppression capability.

BTW, somebody tell me more about McGreevey getting booed. I love it.

Well in that case we have great fire suppression capabilities,we are one of the largest volunteer fire departments in the state of NJ we have around 180-200 volunteers 4 Engines a Snorkel & an Air/Light Unit we cover 1.4 square miles with a population of about 9,000 We have a bunch of highly trained aggressive firefighters and do to our quick response times along with our aggressivness when we get working fires we get them knocked down pretty quick before they get out of hand. Also due to our excellent fire prevention program our rate of actual Structure Fires are down to about 1 or 2 a year We are are still fortunate to roll 3-4 engines and a truck during the day for any type of incident with 3-4 sometimes 5-6 guys on each truck. South Amboy Fire Department is a great department and highly respected for our tactics and maintenance of our apparatus.

Cool. If he doesn't have the FF, that means he's gone after one term.

Holy crap! 200 members, only 4-5 get to ride, that means at most, 3/4 of your department never rides a truck to a call. jk

I was right near the exit McGreevey walked out of and about a minute before him a guy had some "intestinal problems" on the floor. Somehow, the crowd made sure that was the path that McGreevey had to walk. The only thing louder than the booing at exit time was the booing that Buccino received due to his bad attitude.

George, the southern half of the state is looking into a new home due to having something closer to their area. They are trying to get the casino's to fund a good chunk of it. The Boonton home is nice, but it's not full yet they have a waiting list to get in. We've been told it's due to not enough funding available to hire enough health care staff. If we can't afford one fully staffed home, I can't imagine a second one.

That is very interesting. I am sure that you know that the home is funded, in part, by a surcharge on the property insurance cos. Seems to me they are the people to go to for funding. The casinos have been a generally hard-to-deal-with bunch. I'll do some investigating on this one.

Here's a thought...it won't be too many more years before the home has to go co-ed.

    Question

I guess you can call this a follow-up after the fact, But has anyone heard or seen anything about the election and the new president of the NJ State Fire Association? I know the vote was very close, but the gentleman from Seaside Heights won.

Joe Paola, past chief of Seaside FD. Known him for many years. He will not sit back and let things run as they were, he is a very "get involved" gentleman. Might take a little while until he's settled, but he will be active.

I've heard ZERO. In fact, their website hasn't even been updated with the results.

    Pathetic, huh?

The check is in the mail.
    This won't hurt a bit.
It was a little bit over the estimate
    Blah, blah, blah.
