And you're just waking up to the fact that firefighting can be dangerous due to personnel and water supply issues? Does your department have SOP/SOG in place? If not, why not?

There is no structure worth saving at the risk of losing ANY firefighter's life.

Low manpower and insufficient water supply dictate assuming a defensive position until those obstacles are overcome. A pre-existing mutual aid plan better be part of your SOP/SOG. 2 in, 2 out rules should not be disregarded. RIT/FAST procedures should not be compromised. Interior teams, working with insufficient water, in a room nearing flashover conditions...well, they shouldn't have been there. IMO, if fire conditions were that intense...with low water supply, then those firefighters should have been pulled from the building long before flashover occurred.

Mutual aid. If you have daytime personnel shortages; recognize that fact and plan for it...request mutual aid units. If you have areas with insufficient water supply...plan for it. If you can't overcome these problems during initial attack....DEFENSE is the best offense.

If you identify operational issues that are potential problems...you should be designing your training programs around those scenarios...and doing exercises as often as possible.

Serious issue....has been, always will be.

EXACTLY! How are you supposed to save others and their property when you are dead yourself?

I guess he really didn't want my opinion. He was waking up to the fact that low manpower, among other things, can be a serious issue in fire departments. Apparently, some firefighters were involved in a flashover, after doing an interior attack with insufficient manpower and low water supply.

Why he edited the post? Perhaps he'll explain.

    Post Why I deleted

I deleted it because, I felt stupid. I feel like I made myself look stupid. I do know the dangers of the low manpower and such. I came from a low manpower volunteer fire dept. I JUST WANTED the jr.s and explorer's take on it. Being them younger and just starting out. I didnt realize I was going to make myself sound like a dumb idoit.

I deleted it to avoid any further making self look stupid.

    sorry bros...
