Here's the original post by Gonzo on 06-06-2002 at 10:36 PM that can be found in the "The Crusty Bunch" thread:

    Adze...

For your past meritorius service and throwing yourself on a cybergrenade to save us from the ramblings of a pup, I am pleased to announce that you are being awarded the Purple Hydrant and inducted into the Order of the Golden Helmet!

Congratulations for a job well done!
Am I the only one in the Order of the Goldent Helmet?

Incase any of you forgot the good ol' days of the Crusties singing, or you haven't been here that long, here's a flash back and the original lyrics of "The Crusty Bunch":

To the tune of the Brady Bunch

    The Crusty Bunch

    Here's a story, Of a good jake,
Who was riding a very lovely engine.
All his crew had leather helmets, Like their Captain,
    The youngest one's a probie.

Here's a story, Of an online forum,
Which was read by many jakes on their own.
They were crusty men, Wearing all leathers,
    but they were all alone.

Till the one day when the captain joined us online
and they knew it was much more than a hunch,
That this group would somehow form an Association.
That's the way we all became The Crusty Bunch,
The Crusty Bunch, The Crusty Bunch.
That's the way we became The Crusty Bunch.

Not one of the better ones, but it is good...then again, I'm biased towards it!

Attention all COJ's: We need new songs!

    Talking New Crusty Song!!

    I Love this Job!!
to the tune of I love this bar by Toby Keith.

    We got jakes,

    We got nozzlemen,

    Canmen and the irons

    We got Chiefs,

    We got Captains

And weíve got rookies and explorers

And the kids next door dress up like firemen

Hmm mmm mmm mm I love this job

    We got cowboys

    We got flatlanders

    Kiwiís and Australians

    We fight wildfires

    And we fight high rises

    False alarms and all nighters.

And the veterans talk about the smoke eating days

Hmmm mm mmm mm I love this job,

    I love this job,

    Its my kinda thing,

Just driving out the bay door puts a big smile on my face

    It aint to hard,

As a crusty youíll go far,

Hmmm mm mmm I love this job!!

Anyone care to work on the other verses??

    If not I will!

Adze.....what is the "Order of the Golden Helmet"????

It hurts when you get that boot and it leaves a mark.....hence the term "purple"

I am prooud of myself for becoming more PC and dodging the proverbial "boot"....often tough for me to bite my tongue! But with praactice I have learned to give em a lashing and not get in trouble!

And he's pretty good at keeping the rest of us on the straight and narrow as well. Surely it comes from experience.

Honestly, I have no friggin' clue!

We'll have to ask Gonzo. He's the one that made it up and it seems that everyone forgot about it afterwards. (even though I used to have it in my sig)

    Stan:
I'm not getting you a "golden helmet".
However: I believe that the "Order of the Golden Helmet" is an obscure reference to a scene in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".
Or was that the Order of the Priests who said "Nyii"?
Anyway; I'm sure that there is a logical explanation.

I think it may be that they have not had much of a problem with what we have had to say for quite a while. The WT has in the past proven to be tireless in their efforts to keep malefactors and miscreants under control on these boards!

OR, maybe they have met their match????

I almost got the Purple Hydrant a couple of times, but my eloquence in responding to the WT warnings kept me out of trouble. So far anyway.

Just like a bad penny! I keep turning up!

To see a pic of me with my leather, go to www.southhavenfire.com and look at the personell pics, I am 2892, and the most handsome guy there!!

Had so much going on here, getting ready for our firemans ball on the 23rd, answering calls, and getting ready for my buddy who came home from Iraq 2 months ago's wedding! But things are calming down now.

No matter how well researched or articulate you are, if you call somebody "Mr. Poopie Pants", you will get a time out.
