    Talking Hose dummy

If anyone knows where I can find instructions on how to make a hose dummy I would really appreciate it. I did search this forum and read the post on hose dummies but there are no instructions on how to make one nor did I see a link to where instructions may be. (By the way, the first hit that came up for "hose dummies" was Lairdsville revisted )

Check the back of IFSTA's Fire Service Instructor manual. I know the 5th edition has it and I am willing to guess the 6th does as well.

    Default Dummies

The dummy from my son's department disappeared from the training center. Two days later a 911 call came in from a pay phone asking for help. When units arrived at the scene, here was the dummy standing up in the phone booth with the phone receiver to his ear. Case closed.

RebeccaB if you can't find it in the IFSTA instructors manual i would recommend calling your state/local training academy. They will have them and im sure some hose dummy there can tell you how to make more friends to play with @ your drills. good luck

btw i do know from ours you will need some 2.5" line, some 2x4 lumber, and a couple of good size lag bolts.

If you look in the archives of firehouse a few months ago I believe they wrote an article on making a hose dummy. It had Pics, a material list, and the destructions.... I mean instructions

Oh how easy it would be if the long-awaited Firehouse Mag archives were available in the Memberszone!

    From IFSTA's Instructor's manual 5th Ed, on page 311:

Hose "A" Rescue Manikin (there are two figures which I cannot scan in right now)

    1. Straight roll 10 (3m) feet of 3-inch (77 mm) hose and secure with bolt to form head.

(note: use 1/4 x 4-inch [6 mm by 100 mm] stove bolts with nuts on inside.)

    2. Drill hose at center of 50-foot (15 m) section of 3-inch (77 mm) hose and attach to head with bolt.

To form torso, fold half of 50-foot (15 m) section about 8 inches (200 mm) wide (shoulder) and about 33 inches (840 mm) long (abdomen) and 8 inches (200 mm) (hip) from outside toward center. Accordion fold remaining hose inside. Fold the other half in the same manner. Secure folds by bolting flakes together starting at the center.

    3. Attach legs by inserting the center of 17 feet (5.2 m) of 3-inch (77 mm) hose through the bottom loop of torso and fold remaining hose about 32 inches (815 mm) long and toward inside and bolt together.

    4. Fold 12 feet (3.7 mm) of 2 1/2-inch (65 mm) hose at center and attach to shoulder area with bolt. Fold remaining hose about 26 inches (660 mm) long and toward inside and bolt together for arm.

    5. Add gloves, boots, coverall,s sweatshirt, hood, or ski mask.
