*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

10-21-03 OLIVE BRANCH, MS

Student pilot killed in crash during takeoff at Olive Branch Airport
http://www.gomemphis.com/mca/desoto/...364427,00.html

This is a general aviation, non-tower controlled airport in Olive Branch, MS, just SE of Memphis TN and south of Germantown, TN. It is an amazingly busy airport and has just recently been approved to have a tower constructed. Not sure how this would have happened while still on the ground.

The airport is located in the City of Olive Branch. Their HQ station 3 is no more then 2 minutes max away from that facility. Their backup from the volunteers of DeSoto County would have come from Fairhaven, Lewisburg, and Summershill, if necessary.

This has certainly been an interesting week for DeSoto County emergency service providers. It was just yesterday (Mon 10-20) that they had the overpass collapse.
